Daly City Faces Surge of Robberies and Thefts During One-Week Crime Wave

The Daly City Police Department has issued a Crime Alert Bulletin, outlining a recent uptick in robberies, burglaries, and vehicle thefts plaguing the area.

During the week of January 22-28, a wave of criminal activities swept through the community, with reports indicating a notable increase in incidents.

Among the reported crimes were one robbery, multiple burglaries targeting both residential and commercial properties, and several vehicle break-ins and thefts.

In one unsettling encounter, a victim was coerced into surrendering $200 to an individual who approached them while standing on a street corner during the early morning hours.

Residents and businesses alike have fallen prey to the surge in criminal activity. Particularly alarming was an incident involving an elderly intruder gaining access to an unlocked home, and a series of locker break-ins at the local Planet Fitness.

The burglars have shown audacity in their approach, even targeting office doors within commercial properties, demonstrating a blatant disregard for the sanctity of personal and business spaces.

The vehicle-related crimes have been diverse and numerous, ranging from the theft of a nuclear density gauge from an unlocked 2017 Chevrolet Colorado to the smashing of windows to steal tools and electronics.

The police bulletin reported a total of eight stolen vehicles within the span of a single week, with five subsequently recovered. However, the swift recovery of some vehicles offers little solace to those repeatedly victimized.

These incidents shed light on a troubling aspect of daily life, where possessions are snatched away as quickly as they are missed. Additionally, the bulletin provided sobering statistics on domestic disturbances, psychiatric holds, and public intoxication, painting a concerning portrait of the community.

A total of 154 cases were documented throughout the week, underscoring the urgent need for collaborative efforts between the community and law enforcement to curb this surge in criminal activity.
